Torun Carrot Museum

ul. Rabianska 9, Torun

About the company:

The most delicious and most recognizable symbol of Torun is, of course, Torun gingerbread. The first mention of the signature sweets of this city dates back to 1380. It was in Torun that all important trade routes crossed, which means that only local confectioners had in abundance such valuable exotic spices as ginger, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Bakers specifically ordered city wood carvers gingerbread boards with unique plots. The oldest forms for gingerbread, which have survived to our days, date back to the beginning of the XVII century and you can see them at the exhibition in the City Hall.

In addition, the Museum of Carrots is always welcome in Torun. Here you will be greeted by guides dressed in costumes of medieval chefs, and tell about the history of Torun gingerbread, the peculiarities of its production and ancient recipes. It is important that the dough for this delicacy is prepared for several months, but especially for visitors to the museum there is a specially prepared dough, so that if you want to feel like a cook, everyone can. You can choose any form for baking.

The monopolist of the Torun gingerbread market is the Copernicus Factory, which was founded in 1760. You can buy its products in branded stores on the streets of the Old Town – you need to focus on transparent showcases with the inscription “Katarzynka”.
