Walking through the city of Funchal.
For those arriving in Funchal for the first time, it is best to stroll from the Pestana Casino Hotel to the old town of Zona Velha with a visit and tasting of exotic fruits and chocolate at the farmers' market, tasting the sun wine of the island in one of the historical wine halls, that is, take a sightseeing route around the city.
While walking around the city, we will definitely visit the President of Autonomy on a whip with a history - quinta Vigia, stroll through the delightful Santa Catarina Park, feel the vaib of the central streets of the city, visit one of the oldest squares of the city Praça Município and climb the roof of the church Igreja do Colégio, taste the exotic fruits of the island at the picturesque farm market mercado dos Lavradores, walk to the old Santago street and stroll along the fortified Santago doors. You will learn what connects Funchal and Gibraltar, why Funchal is called the first Portuguese city in Oceania, how the features of the city were reflected in its architecture, what symbols are used in the greening of the city and its arrangement, how the Open Doors art project was born, and in which cafes you should drink the right coffee in the morning. This tour lasts 3.5 hours. We will finish our walk near the cable car station in the old town, from where you can climb to the Monte Tropical Park on your own.
Do not forget when planning a walk that the market in Funchal on Sunday is not open, the most pleasant impressions of visiting it remain on the farm days - Friday and Saturday. On weekends and holidays, wine tasting halls are also closed, so if you are serious about understanding the wine of the island, it is better to order a specialized wine tour.
And, of course, if you want to walk in a small group with me (from 4 to 10 people), then this group tour is held every Friday from 9:30 in the morning. An individual tour can be booked for any convenient day of the week.
