d. Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal
Description:
The Madeira wine factory is located in Funchal, the capital and largest city of the island of Madeira in Portugal. This is one of the oldest factories of the island, built in the XVIII century. During the tour, you can see the whole process of production of the famous Madeira wine, as well as taste its varieties in the tasting hall. Madeira wine is a kind of visiting card of the island of Madeira, named in his honor.
Madeira wine is popular all over the world, this strong wine was first made on the island of Madeira. Today, the Madera wine factory produces wine from four varieties of grapes grown on the island's vineyards: verdelou, bual, malvasia and sercial. By the way, on the island of Madeira plantations are not large in size and often belong to different owners. The mountainous landscape of the island does not allow the use of mechanisms, so grape harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand. In September, the Wine Festival dedicated to Madeira is held here.
