University of Coimbra
Description:
Coimbra is a city in Central Portugal, which was the capital of the country before Lisbon. Coimbra is the capital of Portuguese wisdom. Wisdom to this day lives in the walls of the third oldest university in Europe and in the volumes of a unique library, the furniture of which is made from exotic breeds of Brazilian trees in ancient times.
The University of Coimbra is an autonomous educational institution protected by state law. Governance is based on democratic principles, all internal codes are published, having been previously approved by an assembly of representatives of all groups of the university community.
In the university property, among other properties are the most precious assets - the library, recognized as a national monument of Portugal, and the archive, which includes almost all the documentation of the university for its seven hundred-year history - one million volumes and three thousand manuscripts.
Today Coimbrian University has eight faculties and twenty-two thousand students. Its faculties cover all fundamental areas of activity.
