Lisbon: on foot and by tram
Description:
I invite you to a tireless and rich tour of the ancient part of the city.
We will start from the very heart of the city of Lisbon, with Rossio Square, which has always played an important role in the life of the country and the city. From the next square - Restorers Square (Restauradores) - we will climb on the old Gloria funicular to the Port Wine Museum and to the Bayra Altu viewing platform, from where the old Moorish fortress of St. George and the Alfama Hill are clearly visible.
After talking about the origins of the settlement and about the names, we will visit the temple of St. Roque, which miraculously survived the earthquake of the XVIII century, which will show us a piece of the brilliant Portugal of the Empire era. Narrow old streets reach another unusual form of urban transport - the Santa Zushta elevator, where we go down to the famous Pombalinovskaya Baysha, the shopping area of the city.
On the pedestrian street of Augusta we will pass to the Square of Commerce and go to the bank of the Tagus River. Then we delve into Alfama, an area that has preserved many features of the medieval city. Here we will taste ginginyi or port wine (if desired). On one of the characteristic streets we reach the old cathedral, remember the times of the Reconquista and St. Anthony of Padua.
Walk the oldest streets of the city near the Moorish fortress (or visit the fortress itself), and then return to the center, making an unforgettable trip by tram number 28. After this tour, the city of Lisbon will become almost your native and you will feel at home. I highly recommend starting your acquaintance with the city with this kind of excursion.
