Description:
Going on a trip today you will learn about the cities a lot of interesting things. And we won't rush to check the box, we'll rest. We will walk along the streets of medieval Obidush, learn its history, try the local liquor, you will also learn why it is produced in Obidush and why, for example, we will try it in chocolate cups.
Further, our way lies in one of the most beautiful cities of the country Nazaré, where you can see giant waves, according to legend, the name of the city comes from Nazareth: according to legend, one monk brought a small statue of the Virgin Mary - the black Madonna - from there (transit through Spain), but according to one version, here he decided to become a hermit and made a home in a grotto on top of a rock hanging over the water and after his death the image of the Virgin remained in the cave. According to another version, the monk simply hid the Black Madonna in the grotto, the place where the chapel is now located, built in the XII century by order of D. Fois Rupinho, a Portuguese knight who on a foggy morning hunted deer in these places and almost fell into the abyss, in a difficult moment loudly appealing to the Virgin Mary for help and was saved.
As a sign of this miracle - the salvation of his life - he erected a chapel of Memory. Over the 900-year history, it has hardly changed - this small structure is still the main attraction of the city. Its own shrine, which arrived in Portugal in the distant 4th century, but no hype around it was not observed and is not observed – perhaps because the country has enough other shrines (remember Fatima), it seems that the city lives on its own schedule and is intended only for “their own”. But Nazaré positions itself as an “old fishing village”, one of the main in Portugal, and it is popular with 3 categories of travelers. One of them includes pilgrims who dream of worshipping the Black Madonna, the second - people interested in original culture, and the third - beach lovers.
After that, we will visit the city of Alcobasa - this place attracts romantics and couples, because it is here that Pedro I and Ines de Castro are buried in the medieval abbey founded by the first Portuguese king Afonso Henriques in 1153 and for two centuries served as a royal tomb. This famous royal couple who lived in the fourteenth century, often called the Portuguese Romeo and Juliet, you will learn the tragic fate of these lovers, but the tragedy of this story has sunk into the centuries, romanticism remained. . But this legend will surely make an indelible impression on you.
Then we will go to the city of Batalha - the town where you will see the triumphal monument - the Dominican monastery of Santa Maria Batalha da Victoria, which was built in memory of the victory won on August 14, 1385 over the Castilian troops during the Battle of Aljubarrota. This battle took place not far from here, and was a decisive moment in securing the independence of the Kingdom of Portugal. In 1980, custody of the ensemble passed from the State Treasury to the Ministry of Culture. In 1983, the Dominican monastery was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
