Berlenga Island – untouched nature of Portugal
Description:
BERLENGA, despite the title of the island, more like a rock that proudly rises among the ocean expanses. Waves and winds do not forgive the proud and with anger pounce on the island.
Start from Lisbon. We come to the town of Peniche, which is located about 100 km from Lisbon. With the help of a shipping company, we reach the island by sea. Please note that there are no ATMs on the island. During your stay in the town of Peniche, you can taste the wonderful local sweets of Pasteis de Peniche, VERY Tasty!
Landing on a ship, forty-minute journey, and we're on target!
Beach, small hotel, a couple of cafes, tent town, etc.
Spending a weekend on the island is a great idea.
The island itself is a kingdom of birds. The water here has a greenish tint, the variety of fish is simply amazing, they can be observed even with the naked eye.
On the island is perfectly preserved a small military fortress - fort Sao Joao Baptista 1502.
In 2011, UNESCO included the island in the WNBR World List of Nature Reserves.
Three reasons to visit the island:
1. The opportunity to plunge into the atmosphere of untouched nature of Portugal.
2. This is one of the best places for bright windsurfing, surfing, diving and fishing. / You can rent equipment /.
3. The sea here is extremely transparent. The place is ideal for those who want to watch flocks of sea breams, perch and other fish, as well as for exploring caves and sunken ships.
