Nature and gastronomy of Portugal
Description:
We will first cross the Tagus River over the bridge on April 25. It has always been a challenge for the people of Lisbon to move from one bank to the other. For many centuries, the crossing was carried out by boat, and more recently by ferry. All these problems were solved with the opening in 1966 of the 25 April Bridge, which is an outstanding achievement of engineering. Driving across the bridge, it is impossible not to notice the statue of Christos – the King with open arms, as if embracing and blessing the city. At your request, you can stop at the famous statue.
Well, then we will visit the elite village of Azeitau, where everyone who is even slightly interested in wines, cheeses and sweets of Portugal must visit!
We will visit the largest wine producer in Portugal, José Maria de Fonseca, and enjoy the local cheeses and sweets! The Fonseca winery produces quality table wines and is famous for the fragrant dessert wine Mushkatel de Setubal. You will be told about the manufacture of wine and show old cellars with huge oak and chestnut barrels. Wine tasting takes place in detention.
Jose Maria DA FONSECA wines are sold in more than 75 countries. The main plant is a closed area of 9000 m2 with a capacity of 6.5 million liters distributed over 513 tanks.
Next, we will get acquainted with the protected area of Arrabid. The Arrabida Nature Park covers a small area of limestone mountains lying from east to south along the coast between Sesimbra and Setubal. It was created to preserve landscapes and many species of birds and animals, including eagles, wild cats and badgers. Magnificent mountain and sea landscapes, observation decks and complete reunification with nature!
After a lot of walking, hungry, a little tired and happy we go for lunch in one of the simple traditional restaurants in Setubal.
Setubal is an important industrial city and the third largest port in Portugal.
Fish rhodzio is waiting for us. This means that you will be offered more than 10 varieties of fish. Can you handle it?
And at the end of our excursion day acquaintance with the fortress of St. Philip in the city of Setubal. The star-shaped fort was built in 1595 by Philip II during the Spanish reign to resist pirates and English conquerors and control the local population.
We return to Lisbon by the Vasco de Gamma Bridge. Elegant and picturesque crossing that connected Sacavem and Montijo. One of the longest bridges in Europe.
