The Seventh Wonder of Portugal

Description:

Dear friends!

On this tour we will visit the 7th wonder of Portugal!

The Mira de Aire Cave is located 130 km from Lisbon. It is one of the largest in the world. It is on the list of “7 Wonders of Portugal”.

We start the tour by watching a short film about the history of the discovery and development of caves, then go underground. Huge illuminated halls, age-old stalactites, bizarre sculptures created by nature - all this fascinates, delights.
Caves in the area were discovered relatively recently - in 1947. Access was opened to tourists in 1974. The cave has a length of underground corridors of about 11 km, and the total depth is about 230 meters.

Tourists are allowed to a depth of only 100 meters. For this purpose, 683 steps were made here. Along the route there are small lakes, bridges, rivers and fountains, and all of them are illuminated by thousands of colorful light bulbs. The step path leads through several levels and halls. There are 24 in total. They all have names.

For example, the Spaghetti Hall with thin stalactites resembling Italian noodles or the Organ Hall with impressive stretch formations. It really resembles an organ hall and acoustics, by the way, too.
Man-made illumination turns non-man-made art into a magical underworld!

When we get back to earth, we can swim in the pools! A great addition - Mini water park!
