The Old Town is the Mysteries of Lisbon. Walking tour
Description:
This tour is for active people who love walking.
Lisbon is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, a city on seven hills. You and I will conquer two of them. We will feel the mood of Alfama, the most authentic area. Now it is hard to believe that this area was once the most brilliant area of Lisbon. But the view of the red tiled roofs from the observation deck is still fascinating. This is where the first settlement was located. Now - the fortress of St. George, from where the most fascinating views of the city, the river, in good weather you can see the place where the river ends and the ocean begins.
Here you can sit and ride in the famous centenary city tram n28. and conquer the next hill, Bayru Altu. This neighborhood came into being in the 18th century. And he has a completely different face. Shops, cafes, street musicians... All this creates its own special atmosphere. Admiring the view from the observation deck of the Santa Josta elevator, you do not need to stand in a long line below to climb here.
We're going to St. Roque's. Behind the modest facade of the church lies a rich interior. Among a number of chapels stands the chapel of St. John, which is considered the most expensive in the world. It was created by Italian architects in Rome, blessed by the Pope and transported to Lisbon on three ships.
You can go down to the Lower Town, Baishu, on the Gloria funicular. Like the Lisbon tram, the funicular celebrated its centenary. On Baix, too, we are waiting for small discoveries known only to the inhabitants of Lisbon.
Without haste, in a convenient rhythm for you, we walk along the street of Augusto, a kind of Arbat of Lisbon, and find ourselves on the main square, on the Commercial, once Royal, and now the most touristic square of the city. Lisbon has always faced the river, and many tourist routes begin and end here. Here we will finish our tour in one of the tasting rooms.
