Belene Palace
Description:
The Belém Palace is the official residence of the President of Portugal. Located in Belém, Lisbon, near the monastery of the Hieronymites and the Tagus River. The palace was founded in the XVI century by Prince Manuel.
The facade of the palace consists of five buildings of the XVII century, similar in architecture, erected by Counts Aveyres. King João V, in the XVIII century, acquires this palace, soon updating the entire interior in the latest taste. And arranged, at the palace, by Queen Mary, a small menagerie, and the arena attached to it later, is now becoming the State Museum of Crews.
During the construction of the central building, two architectural styles are bizarrely combined: Baroque and Mannerism. The terrace is formed by two balustrades. You can get to it by climbing the side staircases decorated with tiles “azulezhus”. On the terrace there are panels made of tiles “azulezush”, depicting scenes from the lives of heroes of mythology, such as “The Feats of Hercules” and others. At the entrance to the palace, we get into the “Zala-dash-Bikash” (literally – “Plusing Room”), the floor of which is executed in black and white, and the walls are decorated with multicolored panels.
While the palace used to be the seat of the kings, it is now the official residence of the President of Portugal and the national flag flies above it.
