Faire da Ladra Flea Market
in the historic district of Alphama, behind the Church of Santa Engrasia
Description:
Lisbon’s oldest flea market, Feira da Ladra, is perhaps one of the most original sights of the Portuguese capital. The market is located in the historic Alphama district, behind the Church of Santa Engracia, in close proximity to the Pantheon.
“Feira da Ladra” literally translates as “The Thieves’ Market”, but do not be afraid – if there were dark pages in the nomadic medieval past of this market, today theft is infrequent here, and visitors to Lisbon can be relatively calm for their property.
To some, Feira da Ladra will not seem an attractive place for a walk, but collectors and lovers of antiquity will undoubtedly fall under his exuberant loud-voiced charm. Here you can buy everything: household items and decor, clothes and shoes, antique porcelain and old photographic equipment. If you want, you can hear the story of each thing. It is not necessary to buy, but you can and should bargain.
The market operates on Saturdays and Tuesdays in the morning. You can get there by metro (you need to get off at the final station of the blue line - Santa Apolonia) or the old Lisbon tram No. 28. There are no ATMs on the market, so it is better to take cash.
