Edward VII Park

Praca do Marquê s de Pombal, 1070-051 Lisboa, Portugal

Description:

Edward VII Park is located in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. The park was formerly known as Liberty Park, but was renamed in 1903, a year after a visit to Portugal by King Edward VII of England to confirm the alliance between Portugal and England.

The largest park in Lisbon, with an area of 25 hectares, is located on the slope of a hill starting from the square of the Marquis of Pambal. A magnificent park with alleys paved with mosaics, decorated with statues, bushes of strict geometric shape, in it you can see a gazebo, ponds, landscaped garden.

In the northwestern part of the park is the Estufa Fria greenhouse, the so-called cold greenhouse, with exotic plants. In this greenhouse, you can admire such plants as, for example, fuchsia and palm trees, as well as streams and even small waterfalls. And in Estufa Quente, a heated greenhouse, you can see thermophilic plants, over which tropical birds flutter. Near the greenhouses is a pond in which there are large carp.

In the eastern part of the park there is a pavilion named after the 1984 Olympic champion Karlus Lopis.
