Lisbon Oceanarium

Passeio Ulisses 9, 2715-311 Lisboa, Portugal

Description:

At the time of construction, the Lisbon Oceanarium was the largest oceanarium in Europe. It was created in 1998 as part of the exhibition EXPO-98 held in Portugal. The glass and concrete building, towering above the waters of the Tagus River, became part of the Vasco da Gama complex. The initiator of the conceptual building, which houses the aquarium, was Peter Chermajefu. This man was also the designer of the largest aquarium in the world, which is located in Osaka, as well as other aquariums around the world.

The Lisbon Oceanarium is pleased to offer its visitors a look at a large collection of marine species of mammals, fish and other marine organisms. A total of 16,000 individuals of 450 species are represented. Inside the building there is one main aquarium, and around it there are four in which various animals live. There are 25 aquariums on the ground floor.
