Augushta Street

Rua Augusta, Lisbon, Portugal

Description:

One of the most unusual and colorful streets of Lisbon is located in the city center. Rua Augusta is the main pedestrian boulevard, where there are always many citizens and tourists. It connects the triumphal arch on Tereiro do Pasa with Rossio Square. The best place for a leisurely walk with unusual cafes and interesting shops in Lisbon is simply not found.

Augushta Street is a fairly wide pedestrian boulevard, created in the XVIII century. Its pavement is paved by hand from small black and white tiles, forming a complex ornament. These sidewalks are called kalsada and attract many tourists. There are always many street vendors of various sweets, fried chestnuts or small handmade souvenirs. Here often give small performances of street artists and circuses. The colorful shops of merchants and strolling flower sellers with huge baskets make this street unusually bright and memorable.

Augushta Street is also famous for its jewelry shops. They are easily found by their names: Rua da Prata - Silver Street and Rua do Houra - Gold Street. At the intersection of Rua Augusta with other streets there are open summer cafes and pastry shops, where you can have a snack and admire the motley life. Here you can eat more thoroughly - for example, in the restaurant Concha d'Ouro, famous for its seafood dishes.
