Castelo de Vide Castle
7300-185 Castelo de Vide, Portugal
Description:
Castelo de Vide - a castle surrounded by small cute white houses, stands out brightly in the local landscape. From the height of the walls of the castle, the landscape of Alentejo appears in all its splendor. On the northern slope between the castle and Fonti da Vila lie narrow streets that outline the historical zone of the ancient Jewish quarter - one of the most striking evidence of a Jewish presence in Portugal.
Castelo de Vide is the city of the Portuguese province of Alentejo, the driest and hottest place in the country. A typical picture for this part of Portugal is desert landscapes with towns surrounded by mountains on all sides. And on the tops of the mountains rise ancient fortresses, like the castle of Castelo de Vide.
The inhabitants of Castelo de Vide were born in one of the most beautiful and ancient places in Portugal. This picturesque town on the slope of Mount Serra de San Mamed, thanks to its mineral springs, was a popular resort center during the Roman Empire.
Now there are only two springs in the city: one of them is located in the central square of the city, the other in the old Jewish quarter.
The city has many comfortable hotels, most of which are located within walking distance of the castle, which is the main attraction of the city.
