Bank of Portugal Money Museum

The Bank of Portugal Money Museum is one of the most interesting museums in the world. The bank was founded in November 1846 by royal decree. The richest collection of numismatics of the time of the “Great Geographical Discoveries” became the main achievement of the exposition “Money of the West of the Iberian Peninsula”.

This collection is presented for public viewing. The exhibition demonstrates the evolution of money from items that replaced money to the euro, which left its mark in a certain historical era.
