Military museum
Rua do Heroismo 361, Porto, Portugal
About the company:
The military museum, located in the Portuguese city of Porto, has a long history. The collection of objects and documents related to military themes began to collect the artist Joaquim Vitorino Ribeiro at the end of the XIX century. In 1920, the centenary of the Liberal Revolution, it was introduced to the public. The Military Museum was opened in 1980 in a building built at the end of the XIX century, which previously housed a delegation of the former secret police.
The museum expositions introduce visitors to the military history of Portugal. Among the exhibits you can see several guns and combat vehicles of the XV – XX centuries. The main attraction of the Military Museum is a collection of 16,000 miniature figurines of soldiers, which represent the development of military Portuguese costume. The museum also has a separate hall dedicated to the revolution of 1891, when the first attempt was made to establish a republic in Portugal. A small thematic library at the museum is available to the public.
