The railway bridge over the Yenisei

Yenisei, Krasnoyarsk

Description:

The idea of creating a railway bridge across the Elisha arose at the end of the XIX century, when Russia was undergoing rapid construction of tracks. At first, the bridge was a small metal structure in one direction. Its length was exactly one kilometer. It was 20 meters above the river level. The authors of the project were engineer E. Knorre and Professor L. Proskuryakov.

In the 30s of the XX century, there was an acute issue of expanding the bridge, but this would have to demolish the old one. Then the architects came up with the idea to make exactly the same at a short distance, but only for reverse trains. The second stage was completed in the 30s of the XX century.

In the 90s, it was decided to build a third bridge, as the first two could not cope with the influx of trains. Having built it, the first bridge was unsuitable for transportation and it was scrapped.
