Description:
A dynamic tour by car, minicar or bus is an opportunity to see not only the historical center, but also to get to the most interesting places inaccessible to public transport and hiking tourists. Here are just a few famous objects, without which Nizhny Novgorod is unthinkable:
- the main square of Nizhny Novgorod is the former Annunciation, having the shape of a bucket;
- Upper Volga embankment with the best views of the Volga and the most beautiful merchant mansions, one of which was built by the heir to a huge fortune Sergey Mikhailovich Rukavishnikov for one million royal rubles. When in the 30s a photo of the outbuilding of the mansion was taken, the camera captured ghosts in its windows! Photo of the anomalous phenomenon is demonstrated in the exposition of the museum, which is located in the palace house;
- Old street Big Pecherskaya, where in his noble estate lived after exile Decembrist Ivan Alexandrovich Annenkov with his French wife Polina Geble. Their love story is described by Alexandre Dumas in the novel The Fencing Teacher.
- Chkalov staircase is an outstanding ensemble in the style of Stalin’s Empire, legendary, made in 1949 in the stone of the “eight” pilot Valery Pavlovich Chkalov with a length of 560 steps. You can see the staircase in all its grandeur if you drive up or approach the foot of the structure;
- National Unity Square with a monument to Minin and Pozharsky - a reduced copy of the monument to the heroes on Red Square in Moscow. For the history of the whole of Russia, the People’s Unity Square of Nizhny Novgorod is of paramount importance. There, at the feet of the Posadsk mayor Kozma Minin, the citizens carried all the most valuable things for the creation of the Nizhny Novgorod militia, whose members in the spring of 1612 went through this square to Moscow and liberated the capital from Polish invaders.
- Christmas street, open-air museum, the oldest street of the city, which has preserved the appearance of the XIX century. On it is the most beautiful temple of the city - the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, built in 1719 at the expense of Grigory Dmitrievich Stroganov, a contemporary and like-minded Peter I. The value of the temple is white stone carving in the style of Stroganov baroque and iconostasis of the early XVIII century of high artistic level.
- The famous Nizhny Novgorod Fair is a place and phenomenon for which Nizhny Novgorod received the title of “pocket of Russia”. For 100 years, from 1817 to 1917, the world traded there. Later, from 1921 to 1929, the fair resumed its work, but was soon closed. From the largest trading city in Russia, three large objects have been preserved - the Main Fair House, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Spassky Old Fair Cathedral, built according to the project of Auguste Montferrand. For the World Cup, a stadium for 45,000 spectators was built on the historical territory of the fair.
- The only preserved architectural ensemble of the XVII century in the world. In the array of residential buildings sheltered the Assumption Church of 1672 and chambers, built at the same time by the representative of the ancient Nizhny Novgorod merchant dynasty Afanasy Olisov. A few meters from the unique ensemble lies the embankment of Fedorovsky, from where the best views of the Strelka open - the merger of the Oka and the Volga.
- Gorky places where every stone breathes Gorky. This is the estate of Vasily Vasilyevich Kashirin, where the future famous writer was born in March 1868. And the so-called "house Kashirin", described by Maxim Gorky in the story "Childhood". And the apartment house of Kirshbaum, where in early 1904 Alexey Maksimovich left, leaving Nizhny Novgorod for many years. And many other houses associated with the man who made his hometown famous all over the world.
