The Rock of the Holy Apparition (St. George)

Description:

The Rock of the Holy Apparition, or as it is also called, St. St. George is an underwater island near Cape Fiolent.

Legend has it that in 891 a Greek shipwreck with fishermen occurred near the rock.

Exhausted, praying for salvation, the fishermen were saved by St. George the Victorious.

Climbing the rock, the fishermen found a miraculous image.

A year later, in gratitude for this phenomenon, the Greeks founded a church in the cave called St. George Monastery. Then a white cross was placed on the rock.

From the rock of the Holy Apparition there is a wonderful view of the Black Sea.

The way to the beach is carved by monks in the rock. There are more than 800 steps leading to the sea.

You can get to the sights by city transport of Sevastopol. Shuttles 3, 19 and 79 pass through the desired stop "Fiolent".
