Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand
Description:
Fast-forward a few centuries, look at history with your own eyes and feel the greatness of the Thai nation – all this can be done in a town just an hour from Bangkok. An outstanding monument of ancient culture, Ayutthaya, was listed by UNESCO, and later became the set of the film Mortal Kombat. Since then, Ayutthaya has attracted not only lovers to immerse themselves in history, but also those who just want to look at the extraordinary architecture of ancient Thailand.
Ayutthaya is a city in Thailand, which is located in the lower reaches of the Menam Chao Praya River 70 km north of Bangkok upstream of the Menam River and is the most beautiful ancient capital of Siam (14th-18th centuries).
Ayutthaya was founded in the 14th century at the confluence of three rivers - the Menama with tributaries and was considered the capital of the state of Ayutia in 1350-1767, later the capital of Siam and witness to the reign of thirty kings who left their mark in the construction of the city. Previously, Ayutthaya had 400 temples, 3 palaces, 12 km of fortress wall, 17 small fortresses located on strategically important sites, and 100 city gates. There were also 50 km of canals in the city, for which it was named Eastern Venice.
Now the ruins of the ancient capital are unusually beautiful - fabulous temples, elegant towers of pagodas and stupas in the form of a lotus flower or a bell made of raw or burned brick, decorated with bizarre images, as well as many Buddha statues dressed in orange clothes.
