"The Golden Giant's Way"

Description:

This is a research route that shows Thailand beyond the usual touristic framework.

1. Wat Phra Phutta Saeng Tham (Temple of the Shining Dharma)
What it's about: Futuristic Buddhism. The huge steel dome symbolizes protection and the universal scale of the teaching.
What to do: Be sure to go inside the dome - there is incredible acoustics and a sense of infinite space.
Photospot: A panoramic view of the dome from afar to highlight its "space" look.
2. Wat Khao Wong (Tham Narai)
What's this about? Antiquity and austerity. The cave was used for meditation for hundreds of years. There are inscriptions in ancient languages.
What to do: Sit in silence inside the cave for 2-3 minutes to feel the contrast with the noise of the metropolis.
Important: Retreats are often held in the temple, observe complete silence.
3. Wat Tham Krabok.
What is it about: the Temple-Health and the “black giants”. This place is known all over the world for its rehabilitation program, but it amazes tourists with a garden of giant statues of dark concrete.
What to do: Walk among the dark but majestic figures of the Buddhas. This is the most “instagram” and unusual location.
4. Tham Prathun Older Aid Center
What it's about: The social heart of the route. A place where elderly people are cared for, often at the temple.
What to do: This is a point for contemplating and understanding the Thai concept of Tam Bun (doing good deeds). You can leave a small donation or just show respect to the staff.
5. Wat Phra Phutthabat
What it's about: The Royal Shrine. One of the five most important temples in Thailand, where the golden footprint of the Buddha is located.
What to do: Climb the grand staircase decorated with five-headed nagas. Inside the pavilion, look at the gold trim - it's jewelry.
Dress code: The strictest on the route. Knees and shoulders should be closed.
6. Phra Prang Sam Yot (Lopbury)
What it's about: Khmer Heritage and Planet of the Apes. The temple of the XIII century, which looks like a scenery for the film about Indiana Jones.
What to do: Take a photo of three towers (prangs).
7. Wat Muang (Ang Thong)
What it's about: Climax. Here is the “Great Buddha of Thailand” (92 meters high).
What to do: Go to the right hand of the Buddha, touch the tip of his middle finger and make the most cherished wish.
Don't miss: On the grounds of the temple there is the "Park of Hell and Paradise" - detailed sculptures depicting the karmic consequences of actions. The spectacle is not for the faint of heart, but very instructive.
