Acquaintance with the capital of Thailand
Description:
We will start with a visit to the main attraction of the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand – the Royal Palace.
The Royal Palace is the most famous architectural complex in Thailand. On the territory of the complex there are several palaces and a royal temple - the temple of the Emerald Buddha, which houses the most revered Buddhist shrine in Thailand - the statue of the Emerald Buddha.
After a walk through the palace, we will make a voyage in the cool channels of the main waterway of Thailand - the Chaopraya River. Looking at Bangkok from this side, it’s easy to see why it’s called Venice of the East. Our excursion will continue in the temple of the Reclining Buddha - Wat Pho.
The Reclining Buddha Temple was founded almost 2 centuries before Bangkok became the capital, and is considered the oldest Buddhist building in the city. On the territory of the temple, an area of 8 hectares, there are more than 1,000 images of the Buddha, most of which were brought from the ancient capitals of the Thai states - Ayutthai and Sukhotai.
The main attraction of the temple is a giant statue of the Buddha, whose dimensions are 46 meters long and 15 meters high - this is the largest image of the Buddha in the world. The entire statue is covered in sheet gold.
Wat Po was the first university in the kingdom, where, among other sciences, students learned traditional Thai medicine, including Thai massage. Teaching the art of Thai massage continues on the temple grounds to this day.
The temple complex is active and is used by the Buddhist Sangha, a community of monks, for ceremonies and festivals in which the king takes part. On such days, visits to the Emerald Buddha Temple for the general public may be limited. This stunningly beautiful complex is located on an area of 24 hectares, most of which is open to visitors. You can see the Golden Stupa, the Pantheon of the Kings of the Chakri Dynasty, visit the Museum with relics of the now ruling royal dynasty, among the exhibits of which ritual objects used by royalty, gifts from foreign embassies of the royal courts of European countries and precious clothes of the Emerald Buddha.
The buildings of the palace are guarded by the Royal Guard, and the changing of guards is a spectacular sight.
