Devasathan Temple
Bamrung Muang Road, Bangkok, Thailand
Description:
Devasathan Temple is an old Hindu temple built in Thai style, also known as Brahmin Temple. It was built by order of King Rama I in 1784. The temple complex consists of three halls. The first hall is dedicated to the god Shiva, the second hall to Ganesha and the third to the god Vishna. In the temple halls there are statues of these gods.
Giant wooden swings were installed in front of the temple, which took part in the ancient Brahmin ritual - the Swing ceremony. But during the time of Rama the Second, a lightning strike damaged the swing and the ceremony was no longer held. In 1920, the giant swing was moved to another location.
