Mini Angkor Wat Temple
2 Na Phra Lan Road, Bangkok, Thailand
Description:
The Mini Angkor Wat Temple is a miniature replica of the grand Cambodian Hindu temple complex Angkor Wat dedicated to Vishnu. It was built in the XVII century on the territory of the Thai Royal Palace by order of King Rama the Fourth.
The king was so fascinated by the greatness of Angkor Wat that he sent a team of experts to survey the temple complex and explore the possibility of moving it from Cambodia to Siam. But such a task proved impossible in principle, and King Rama IV ordered a smaller replica of Angkor Wat to be built in Bangkok. Although Mini Angkor Wat was small, the king extolled its symbolic meaning to sky-high heights.
