Description:
Wat Rakhang Kositaram Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple built during the Ayutthaya period. It is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The exact date of construction of the temple is unknown. Its name means "temple bell". The temple was originally called Wat Bang Wa Yai. During the reconstruction of the temple by King Rama I, a bell with an impressive resonance ringing was found in it. In honor of this bell, the temple was renamed. Later, King Rama II moved the bell to another temple, and in return gave the temple Wat Rakhang Kositar five new bells. Today they can be seen in the temple bell tower.
The temple is also known for its library, which is an outstanding example of Thai architecture. The library consists of three interconnected buildings installed on wooden piles. It now functions as a museum.
