Phutthamonthon Park
Phutthamonthon Sai Ko, Tambon Salaya, Bangkok, Thailand
Description:
Phutthamonthon Park is a Buddhist park built to commemorate the 2,500th anniversary of Thai Buddhism. It was built in 1957 west of Bangkok. The park covers an area of about 400 hectares. The idea of creating a Buddhist park belongs to the Prime Minister of Thailand, Mr. Phibunsongkhram.
The main attraction of Phutthamonthon Park is a huge statue of a standing Buddha. The height of the statue is almost 16 meters. It was cast in 1981 and installed in the heart of the park. Around the statue are architectural compositions depicting the four main moments in the life of the Buddha - his birth, gaining enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, the first sermon and his death.
