New Year

New YearOn New Year’s Eve, Tunisia is drowning in flowers and greenery. The festive atmosphere is everywhere. Traditional New Year dishes Tunisians prepare with special attention: dried lamb ribs are decorated with legumes and other vegetables. Also on the festive table there are dishes of stewed greens, pies and cakes, so that the New Year is as green, fruitful and sweet.

Children on this day enjoy a dish of couscous (a dish based on millet or other cereals with stewed meat and vegetables), which is served on a wooden plate, and a caramel figurine is placed in the center of the dish. The figure is usually in the form of a rooster or deer.

In the city squares, various exhibitions, lectures and screenings of films in cinemas are held. And, of course, the invariable attribute of the holiday remains a decorated Christmas tree, although in Tunisia, a pine tree is decorated as a Christmas tree.
