Assos Old Town

Now located in Turkey, Assos was founded in the 7th century BC by the Aeolians, an ancient Greek tribe. Today, the village belongs to the charming tourist town of Behramkale. This name was given by Turkish settlers after the city was captured by Turkish troops. Currently, about 1,000 people live in the city.

The town of Behramkale is located on the southwestern tip of the historic Troada, 86 km southwest of the town of Çanakkale, just 30 km east of the village of Babakale and 64 km west of the town of Edremit. Administratively, Behramkale belongs to the municipality of Aivajik, which is part of the province of Çanakkale.
