Description:
In Turkish Erzurum a huge number of different mosques. The Ibrahim Pasha Mosque or Middle Mosque is one of the city’s six main temples. Its construction dates back to 1748. The initiator of its laying was Haji Ibrahim Etham Pasha, as evidenced by the inscription located above the entrance. The purpose of the building was to arrange a library and school in it. Pasha and his sons are buried in the courtyard. In the southern part of the mosque there are rooms with terraces for students of madrasah. The minaret was built a little later. There was also a drinking fountain, but it did not reach us. The interior walls of the mosque are decorated with plant ornament. The walls are stone, the building is quadrangular. The temple has one large dome and three small ones. The mosque is small, because due to the increased seismicity of the region, tall buildings were not built.
The mosque is located near the city gate. You can get there by tram T1 to the Karakoy stop. The walk will take about 15 minutes.
