During this walking tour we visit the Old Town and its sights.
First, we will see the Council of Holy Sophia (Constantinople), which is more than a thousand years old. St. Sophia Cathedral in Constantinople remained the largest temple in the Christian world until the construction of St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome.
And then we'll visit the BLUE DREAM. It is the largest mosque in Istanbul. It has six minarets. It is considered an outstanding example of Islamic and world architecture. The mosque is located on the shores of the Sea of Marmara in the historic center of Istanbul opposite the Hagia Sophia Museum.
Next we will see the Roman Hippodrome, which remained important after the conquest of Istanbul. Here were held, throwing spears, games, circumcision, religious holidays.
After the racecourse, we are waiting for the Basilica Cistern, one of the largest and best preserved ancient underground reservoirs of Constantinople, which has some resemblance to the palace complex.
And a bosphorus walk. The Bosphorus is a strait between Europe and Asia Minor, connecting the Black Sea with the Marmara Sea. The strait is about 30 km long. The maximum width of the strait is 3700 m in the north, the minimum width is 700 meters. The water offers a great view. This is a slightly different Istanbul, not the touristy one we are used to in the pictures. Along the entire Bosphorus Strait, there are interesting houses right on the shore. All are different, but in a similar architectural style. There are many old mosques.
In the middle of the Bosphorus on the island stands one of the main attractions of Istanbul Kiz Kulesi - Maiden Tower. The tower is one of the symbols of the city. It is depicted, in particular, on Aivazovsky’s canvas “View of the Leander Tower in Constantinople” (1848). Today she serves as a beacon. There are many legends about the construction of the tower and its location.
