Beilerbeyi Palace
Ç ay rba Cad., Beylerbeyi Mah.
Description:
Stretching along the coast, the building of white marble and stone attracts with its baroque sophistication.
Initially, the summer residence occupied 160,000 square meters and included hunting grounds, a zoo and a garden with plants from around the world, which distinguishes Beylerbey from other palaces of the Ottoman era: a terraced garden descends down the slope from the back of the palace. Another highlight of Beylerbey was the tunnel leading from the palace to the park (previously bridges were used in the Bosphorus residences for this purpose). The interior of the premises combines Western and Oriental styles: luxurious chandeliers made of Bohemian crystal and French watches against the background of porcelain products from China and Japan.
Beylerbey Palace was also known as a stopover place for eminent foreign guests in the Ottoman capital. Among them are the Prince of Wales, the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef, the Persian Shah Nasruddin, Grand Duke Nicholas.
The palace is open to visitors daily, starting Wednesday, from 09:00-16:00.
