Firuz A Camisi Mosque (Firuz A Camisi)
Istanbul, Fatih, 7 Divanyolu Street
Description:
The Firuz Agha Mosque in Istanbul appeared in 1491. The author of the project is considered Firuz Agha, vizier of the sultan. The mosque is not very large in size and not as majestic as the Blue Mosque, but its early Ottoman style of architecture can not leave anyone indifferent. There is also the sarcophagus of the vizier.
The mosque is one-headed, square in shape with an octagonal base. The dome is covered with lead plates. Two rows of windows and arches with canopies are examples of classical style. The dome is decorated with a spire and crescent, in which the sun's rays reflect.
The building itself is stone. Inside the walls you can see hand-paintings of calligrapher Sheikh Hamdullah Efendi. The wooden door that serves as the entrance to the mosque is also a work of art.
You can get by high-speed tram T1 to the stop "Sultanahmet".
