Bosphorus Strait
Description:
The Bosphorus, a strait connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, located between the Balkan Peninsula and Asia Minor, separates Europe from Asia. Together with the Dardanelles (in the south), it connects the Aegean Sea with the Black Sea. Both straits represent a sea route of international importance. They regulate the rules of maritime transport.
Two sea currents flow in the Bosphorus Strait: a surface stream at a speed of 4 km / h, which is sweetened by water from the Black Sea, and the opposite deep sea current with high salinity.
The Bosphorus is a former flooded river valley with steep rocky banks. There are many bays - Istanbul is located above the largest of them.
