Istanbul is a city where East and West cultures meet (Hagia Sophia on one side, Blue Mosque on the other). Istanbul University is one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It is 558 years old and is one of the oldest research centers not only in the Middle East but also in the world. Apart from its prestige, the university boasts a huge collection of books, which now has more than a quarter of a million volumes and about 20,000 manuscripts.
