Yokohama

Japan is a world of new technologies, high engineering and centuries-old traditions.

Description:

Aqualine: The triumph of Japanese engineering (11:30-21:00)

Only possible by car.

In today’s journey I will try to discover for you the world of modern achievements, high technologies and innovations, side by side coexisting with cultural heritage. Beautiful landscapes, modern technology development, a combination of traditions and innovations – all this is intertwined together in our journey. To visit the country of high technology and not see the world’s longest underwater tunnel Aqualine – it’s inexcusable! “Aqualine” is not only a convenient and fast track, but also a landmark that is definitely worth a look. The underwater tunnel, which is rightly ranked among the modern “wonders of the world”, connects the cities of Kisarazu in Chiba Prefecture and Kawasaki in Kanagawa Prefecture. A long bridge stretching into a blue distance, towering in the distance Mount Fuji, welcomingly waving his hand from the opposite bank. The length of Aqualine is 15 kilometers, of which 4.4 kilometers the route goes along the highest bridge over the area of growing artificial pearls, and 9.5 kilometers under water at a depth of 57 meters. The tunnel has the largest diameter in the world among underwater tunnels laid by shield method and intended for the movement of vehicles. Its construction and drilling took 8 years and almost $ 12 billion.

Along the way, there is an outdoor recreation area known as Mi-Hotaru (the name translates to "Sea Firefly"), which offers beautiful views of Tokyo Bay, with many restaurants and shops for tourists and visitors, making it a good place to spend a pleasant time with friends and or family. That's where we'll stop. Walk out in the middle of the ocean and visit a major tourist center, where there is everything for visiting tourists to remember this place as an unforgettable kaleidoscope of pleasures. Here we will have the opportunity to immerse our feet in a font of mineral water and admire passing ships in the open Pacific Ocean. For lovers of sweet there is an ice cream cafe with unusual varieties. I would like to note that it was here that the filming of the new version of the film "Gojila" took place. We will see the place where the monster came to land and even the remaining traces of its paws. We will definitely look into the museum, telling and showing on beautiful models the whole process of laying the tunnel.

It's lunchtime. It's going to be in a tape sushi bar. This type of restaurant is convenient in the sense that there is no need to communicate in the local language, and you can choose dishes yourself from what is presented not in the picture in the menu, but passes on the tape right before your eyes. The price is indicated for a plate on which at least two sushi of the same species are always presented. Calculation is carried out by the number and color of plates. You can find out the cost of a plate by color immediately behind the bar - all the information before your eyes. This is not an expensive restaurant, but it is very tasty and hearty.

After lunch we will go to Yokohama, located in the heart of Japan on the Pacific coast. It is the second most populous city in the country with 3.7 million inhabitants. Yokohama is a center of culture and art, which best combines traditional Japanese features and new trends. There is a special atmosphere in Yokohama, of which the people of the city are very proud. Many Japanese dream to move there, as it is not only a large metropolis, but also quite an interesting place from a historical and cultural point of view. This city is recognized by tourists as the top tourist destination in Asia.

It's time to dilute Japan's modern history with something traditional. The Sankayen Open Air Museum is exactly what you need. These are primarily ponds, gazebos, trees and buildings. The eighteen-hectare garden was founded in 1906 by a wizard named Sankei Hara (real name Tomitaro Hara). This man conceived to create a garden, and in order to implement this project, from all over Japan, from the ancient capitals of the country Kyoto and Kamakura, as well as from Gifu Prefecture, unique temples of the Buddhist sect Zen, pagoda, tea houses, gazebos of the XVII-XVIII centuries were brought. In front of each building or object hangs a plaque explaining the uniqueness of this artifact. For example, a stone washbasin located in the corner of the garden is equipped with an inscription that it is the most beloved and adored washbasin of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the unifier of Japan.

Then we will take a break, take part in the tea ceremony (the roasters will have the opportunity to prepare a tea drink on their own, taking into account all the rules and laws of the ceremony). We’ll drink matcha green tea (5 euros extra), whipped bamboo wreath to thick foam by the hands of elegant grandmothers in a kimono from a local tea ceremony mug, and explore the small museum gallery inside the park, which contains a collection of paintings in which Sankei Hara knew a lot (there are several of his creations – and I especially like the one where the cat with the peon is depicted). We should come back here again. Return to experience this extraordinary atmosphere of calm and harmony. Just to listen to the crystal silence.

The Maritime Museum in Yokohama is an unusual museum, which is located not in the building, but on board the famous sailboat Hikawa Maru, built in 1930. Now it is a floating museum that tells visitors about the history of the city. The most famous passengers of the liner are Charlie Chaplin and the founder of judo Jigoro Kano. At the beginning of World War II, Hikawa Maru sheltered Jews fleeing the Nazis through Japan. After Japan entered the war, Hikawa Maru became a floating hospital. From 1945-1947, the liner used the US military to repatriate its citizens. In the 50s it became a passenger liner. The interior of old times is preserved. You can enter the cabins. Captain's cabin, steering wheel - everything can be touched, twisted. You can even walk around and watch the engine.

Then we will walk through the whole chain of bridges Kisamichi Promenade (Kishamichi Promenade) built on the site of real railway tracks, connecting the warehouses of the old port with the city. All these designs are authentic, and railway bridges and tracks functioned until the middle of the 20th century, as proudly reported on the tablets. The length of the transition on the three bridges will be 500 meters

On the way back, we will not miss the Port of the Future, Minato Mirai, the visiting card of the city. In favorable weather, we will walk along the embankment past the Osanbashi sea passenger terminal with a wooden deck, from where a wonderful view of the Port of the Future will open in the rays of sunset or in night lighting. Osanbashi Pier is a bridge ship. This is the Yokohama Port Passenger Terminal building, but even if we don't leave, it's a nice walk. Pierce has been rebuilt many times and is currently represented by the 2002 incarnation. The author of the project is the architect Alejandro Zaera-Polo, known for his pragmatic approach and rigor in technical solutions. Osanbashi looks most like an aircraft carrier, only very peaceful.

Do not ignore one of the tallest buildings in the country-land mark tower. The height of the building is almost three hundred meters, which makes the view of the city very impressive and exciting, and wide windows allow you to make a large number of chic photos, so that the joints do not fall into the frame. It is from here that you can see the real Japanese spirit, as well as a real port city-giant, where the city of Yokohama itself appears before you as a small Japanese garden, where there are many bridges, ships, piers. It would seem that they are very close. By the way, it is here that you are lifted by the fastest high-speed elevator in the world, listed in the Guinness Book of Records. At an altitude of 300 meters we will be less than a minute! We will see the onset of darkness in this place, and we will be rewarded with the spectacle of the night panorama of the city.

Recently, one of the main attractions of Japan have become factories. Excursions to these places make a particularly strong impression in the evening or at night. So for those who are going to Japan and dream of seeing life in the evening Japanese factory variety, we offer a night industrial cruise on a boat with unusual spacescapes, ghost ships, oil plants. The Kawasaki industrial district, located between Tokyo and Yokohama, is becoming a popular tourist destination. Geometrically verified plexus of metal structures, decorated with illumination in the evening and at night, will not leave you indifferent. The captain of the ship is so good-natured that he even allows you to go to the cape of the boat and rides at good speed with a breeze. Perhaps someone will feel like a character in the famous movie “Titanic”. River evening cruises, giving the opportunity to see the industrial landscape of Kawasaki in all its glory, will cost travelers only $ 60. However, it is necessary to book in advance: local tour bureaus make a list of those who wish for a month in advance. And souvenirs from Yokohama with a nautical theme for you and your home are sure to buy in the process of walking. Don't forget chocolate with silk added.

The tour is suitable for all who are interested in new technologies, engineering art, architecture, Japanese gardens, landscape design. It is in this journey that you can see the architecture of different historical epochs in one place. Our trip can be called “The Old Man and Modernity” and it will delight everyone.

For the sake of today’s spectacular landscapes, it is worth visiting Japan at least once.
