You will also visit the Park of Letters and the fortress of Amberd-historical complex consisting of a castle of the VII century and a church of the XI century. Amberd is located at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level, halfway to the peaks of Aragats in a beautiful and powerful gorge between two rivers.
Day 4: Khor-Virap-Areni-Noravank-Tatev
Early in the morning departure to Khor-Virap monastery-fortress is located on a hill, which offers a majestic view of the biblical Mount Ararat. In ancient times there was the historical city of Artashat, one of the ancient capitals of Armenia. Khor-Virap is one of the shrines of the Armenian Apostolic Church and a place of pilgrimage. The next attraction is the Noravank Monastery. Translated from Armenian Noravank means "new monastery". It was built in the 13th century among the beautiful red rocks. Noravank Monastery is known for its two-storey church of St. Astvatsatsin. Narrow stone steps on the facade of the church lead to the second floor of the church. Medieval Armenian architects and sculptors showed all their skill and talent in decorating the walls of the church of St. Astvatsatsin. Being high above the gorge, where the monastery is located, you will feel in heaven, as if extending a hand, you can touch the sky. The next point of our excursion day is free wine tasting in the village of Areni. On the same day, we go to the cable car to cross to the Tatev monastery. "Wings of Tatev" - the so-called cable car, which is considered the longest (5752 meters) in the world. Driving over the gorge, you will feel like a bird, and below - breathtaking beauty. The cable car offers an exciting journey. All this really makes Tatev Monastery a world-class tourist destination. After 15 minutes of flight over the fabulous gorge, we will find ourselves at the Tatev monastery. A powerful and not criminal fortress stands Tatev Monastery on a cliff that breaks into the gorge of the Vorotan River. The Tatev Ensemble fills the magnificent landscape around it and makes it more picturesque. The architectural and artistic center of the ensemble, visible from afar, residential and office premises, are located in one row and stand out on multifaceted rock foundations, thus giving the fortified monastery its original appearance. After visiting the Tatev Monastery, return to Yerevan.
Day 5: Yerevan-Garni-Geghard Morning
A tour of historical and holy places of Armenia in Garni and Geghard awaits you. Garni is the former summer residence of Armenian kings. Breathe the clean air of the mountains of Armenia and look back – the indescribable beauty of majestic nature! Trip to the monastery complex Geghard (12-13 centuries). The monastery was founded in the 4th century on the site of a sacred spring originating in a cave. Therefore, it was originally called Ayrivank, which means "cave monastery". According to legend, the founder of the monastery was St. Gregory the Illuminator. The monastery complex is included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Part of the temples of the monastery complex are completely carved inside the rocks. On the territory of the monastery complex there are numerous khachkars carved on stone walls and free-standing.
