Cascade Brewery
131 Cascade Rd, South Hobart TAS 7004, Australia
About the company:
The famous Cascade brewery is the oldest and most beautiful in Australia. Built in 1824, it still produces beer of great taste.
The creator of the brewery was Peter DeGraves, a man of extraordinary practical acumen and with enormous abilities in business. In two years he managed to open sawmills and mills in Tasmania, create the Hobart water supply system, build the Royal Theatre and become the ancestor of brewing in Australia.
Experts note that the place for the brewery was chosen very precisely: clean mountain air without ubiquitous microbes, clean drinking water, local malt and hops made it possible to produce an excellent drink, which immediately fell to the liking of local residents.
The building itself, where beer was brewed, looks like a medieval European palace made of granite. Its stepped facade resembles the facades of royal palaces. Apparently, such a building was consonant with the character of Degraves himself: everything he started was distinguished by solidity and thoroughness.
Today you can visit the Cascade Brewery with a tour, which ends with the traditional tasting of several beers. You will be guided through all stages of production, from malting to packaging. At the end of the tour, we advise you to walk through the magnificent well-groomed garden surrounding the building.
