Cairo

Saladin Citadel

Description:

The Salah Ad-Din Citadel is the hallmark of Cairo along with the pyramids of Giza. The tour takes us back to the Middle Ages and the Crusades organized by the Holy Church to the East to recapture the Holy Sepulchre and cleanse the Holy Land of Saracens. We will learn the story of the life of the great commander Yusuf ibn Ayyub, known in the West under the honorary nickname Saladin (The piety of faith).

Saladin, as the main opponent of the Crusaders, was respected in Europe for his true valor: bravery and generosity towards the enemy. King Richard the Lionheart of England, one of the chief leaders of the Crusaders, became almost a friend of Saladin.

The principles of nobility and mercy of the great general were later transferred to the Code of Honour of the Knighthood of Western Europe.
