Suleiman Pasha Mosque
Inside the Citadel, Cairo, Egypt
Description:
The Süleyman Pasha Mosque is the largest monument in Egypt, reflecting the centuries-old identity of the Ottoman Empire. It was founded in 1528 by Khadim Suleyman Pasha.
Another temple, built in 1141, stood on the site of this mosque. However, Suleiman Pasha decided to build a new mosque, representing the power and strength of the new ruler.
The mosque consists of two parts surrounded by a large dome. The first part of the mosque contains various ancient letters telling the history of the Ottoman Empire.
The western wall leads to the second part of the temple, surrounded by four marble arches.
In the second section are tombs covered with traditional motifs.
