Ahmed Shauki Karmat Ibn Hani Museum

Egypt, Cairo, 6 Ahmed Shawki Street

About the company:

The Ahmed Shauki Museum is an unconventional museum, in which instead of the usual sculptures and other artifacts there are 713 manuscripts, which include drafts with poems and other works of the great Arab poet. Also in the museum you can find an impressive collection of paintings, photos of the poet and his family, his awards and other valuable gifts. In the house-museum of the emir (prince) of the Arab poem are the bedroom and the study of the poet. The museum opened to the public on June 17, 1977.

Ahmed named his house "Karmet Ibn Hani", which translates as "Vineyard of Ibn Hani". Ahmed’s influence on Arabic literature was so great that his home became a national museum. Shauki was a follower of al-Barudi, who in his verses, panegyrics, exalted the Prophet Muhammad and glorified the former glory of Egypt. For angry verses against the British protectorate, he was expelled from the country by the British authorities.
