Andec monastery
Bergstrasse 2 | Andechs, 82346
Description:
The Andec Benedictine Monastery is not only a place of pilgrimage to the holy relics brought from Rome and Palestine, but also a place where beer is produced.
The monastery, located in a picturesque place, rises above the village of Andex - the patrimony of an ancient and powerful Bavarian family, the castle of which in the XV century was converted into a monastery. At the beginning of XIX it was abolished, but later the Bavarian king Ludwig I bought and restored the monastery in its former form.
In the Andex monastery beer was brewed in the Middle Ages. Benedictine monks have preserved the tradition of brewing beer for centuries, constantly updating and improving recipes for making beer. In 1906, a real brewery was built at the monastery, and in 1950 - a beer bottling plant. In 1970-1980, the plant was modernized, gradually updating and adapting production technologies to modern conditions.
The Andec tradition of brewing is still alive today. The beer of the Andek monastery brewery is widely used for gastronomic purposes and is becoming increasingly popular - 100,000 gallons of this drink are produced every year in the monastery. Andek beer is sold in many European countries, but of course it is a pleasure to try it here.
