Ostrog Monastery is a functioning Serbian Orthodox monastery in Montenegro. This monastery is considered the main shrine of Montenegro. Ostrog Monastery is located in a rock, at an altitude of almost 900 meters above sea level. Today, this monastery is active and 12 monks live in it.
Founded in the 17th century by St. Basil of Ostrog (real name Stoyan Jovanovitch), Ostrog Monastery every year attracts pilgrims from all over Europe who come to venerate the relics of St. Basil and ask for healing. Their wishes and prayers are also written on pieces of paper, placing them in the cracks of the rocks.
