Onofrio Grand Fountain

Placa - Stradun 32, Dubrovnik, Croatia

Description:

The Great Onofrio Fountain is considered one of the main attractions of the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. It is located in a small square near the Pile Gate. It dates from 1438-1444.

The author of the project is a famous architect from Naples. It wasn't an accident. At that time, the water supply system was being arranged, and the fountain became part of it. It originally had two floors, one of which was destroyed by an earthquake. Water came from a mountain spring 12 kilometers from Dubrosnik. On each of the 16 sides of the fountain is a carved medallion. Some have been destroyed and need restoration. The water is delicious, you can drink and take with you.

At night, it is especially beautiful because it has a bright light. Thousands of splashes in the night lights create a unique sight. They are located at the two ends of the central street of Dubrovnik, Straduna, which can be reached on foot or by taxi.
