Stradun Street
Stradun ulica, 21485, Komi a, Croatia
Description:
Stradun is the main street of Dubrovnik, which is located between the eastern gate of Ploce and the western gate of Saw. The length of the street is only 300 m. Once in its place was a swampy water channel separating Dubrava and Ragusa, but when the cities merged, it was decided to build a central road. First, the ditch was covered with earth, and then covered with limestone.
At the eastern end of the street is the Big Onufriev Fountain and the bell tower of the Franciscan monastery, and to the west the Small Onufriev Fountain and the city bell tower.
Most of the buildings were destroyed after the earthquake in 1667, but thanks to the restoration, many monuments and attractions have survived to this day.
Stradun is a pedestrian street, near which there are galleries with paintings by famous artists, many souvenir shops, cafes. It is here that most holidays are celebrated, and sometimes concerts are organized. On Vlasiev day, solemn processions are held here.
Stradun is impossible to miss, it is the only entrance to the Old Town from the west side.
