What to see in Petra

Petra is one of the most famous ancient cities in the world, carved in a pink rock massif by the Nabataeans more than two thousand years ago. This city in Jordan retains an atmosphere of mystery and grandeur: narrow gorges, monumental facades and traces of a thousand-year history attract travelers from all over the world. A walk through Petra is a journey through time, where each trail and stone arch remind you of the trade routes and cultural contacts of antiquity.

Manufactures and facilities

Among the man-made attractions stands the temple-mausoleum of El-Khazne, built in the II century and known as the “Treasury of the Pharaoh”. Impressive are the massive facades carved directly into the rock, the Byzantine church with mosaics and the monastery of Al Deir, located at a height and opening amazing panoramas. In the vicinity of Petra, there are fortresses and medieval structures, including the famous Karak Castle with its labyrinths and vaulted halls, which add to the route of historical scale.

Natural attractions and places

Natural attractions are organically intertwined with man-made: the canyon Sik length of one and a half kilometers leads to the main monuments and is considered the main natural entrance to the city. The rocks, the color of which varies from pale pink to saturated terracotta, desert valleys and plateaus around create fascinating views and excellent opportunities for hiking and photography. The surroundings offer a wadi world and secluded observation decks, and nearby coastal towns and bases are convenient for day trips.

Build routes and visit interesting places

On our site you can see all these attractions on an interactive map, read in detail brief descriptions and historical notes, as well as build a personal route.
