Galilee – Zippori, Beit Shearim, wine and cheeses
Description:
Galilee is the biblical historical and geographical area of the ancient Kingdom of Israel and modern Israel. Galilee is famous for its fertile valleys and pastures, holy places and history. The archaeology of Galilee animates the pages of the Bible and the books of Josephus, as well as the Talmudic tradition. Just as in modern times, and thousands of years ago, Galilee was an agricultural land where vegetables, fruits, crops and, of course, grapes were grown. Winemaking is an integral part of the Jewish tradition that continued into the Roman and early Christian period, following the fall of the Second Temple and the expulsion of the Jews.
You will see these historical periods by visiting two archaeological parks on the site of ancient cities - Beit Shearim and Tsipori.
Beit Shearim was not only a city of the living, but also a city of the dead. There is a huge Jewish Necropolis - cave burials, the scope of which amazes modern man. Beit Shearim is also the history of the first Jewish settlements of the 19th century.
Tzipori is the richest city, which in the Roman-Byzantine period reached its highest economic growth. You will see Roman streets Cardo and Decomanus, ruins of residential buildings and public buildings, rich villas, a synagogue and a theater. Tzipori is called the city of mosaics because of the large number of perfectly preserved floor mosaics.
Galilee is a country of winemaking, so we will visit one of the wineries located in the area. You will find wine tasting, including treats - fresh bread, natural local cheeses and vegetables.
