Royal Palace
Description:
One of the main attractions of Cambodia in Phnom Penh is the unique complex of the Royal Palace with the Throne Room. It is located on the banks of the Mekong River and represents a magnificent example of unique Khmer architecture.
In Khmer, this palace is called “Preah Barom Reachea Waeng Chaktomuk”. Since 1866, the King, his family and high-ranking dignitaries have lived in the building. During the historical vicissitudes of the Khmer Rouge period, the palace was temporarily empty.
The main building of the Royal Palace is the Throne Palace, built in 1917. It was here that royal ceremonies took place: coronations, weddings and other especially significant events. The building is crowned by three spires, the central of which has a height of about 60 meters and is decorated with a multifaceted Buddha.
At the entrance to the Royal Palace you can see the throne and skillfully created busts of all the rulers of Cambodia. In addition, on the territory there is the Elephant Pavilion, the Pavilion for storing royal regalia and a special hall for receptions.
By the way, during receptions, tourists are not allowed on its territory. But in due time you can visit the Royal Palace from 07.30 to 11.00 hours and 14.00 to 17.00 hours for a nominal fee of $ 5.
