What to see in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is the vibrant and colorful capital of Cambodia, officially the capital since 1866, but the city’s history dates back to the end of the XIV century. European colonial architecture, Khmer traditions and modern life are mixed here: the narrow streets of the markets are adjacent to the majestic palaces, and the embankments of the rivers attract coolness and water views.

Manufactures and facilities

Phnom Penh’s man-made attractions are impressive in variety: the Royal Palace with the Throne Room and ornate halls, the famous markets – the Russian Market and the Old Market (Phsar Chas), where you can feel the everyday atmosphere of the city, as well as the Angkor Night Market with its craft shops. In the vicinity and in Cambodia itself are ancient temple complexes such as Phnom Da on the hill and Sambo Prei Kuk – an impressive pre-Angkor group of temples that reveal the wealth of Khmer heritage.

Natural attractions and places

The natural attractions around Phnom Penh are no less picturesque: the Mekong River, whose delta begins in Cambodia near Phnom Penh, branches out into the Hauzang and Tienzang tributaries, giving life-giving scenery and the opportunity to walk along the embankments. River views, green areas along the coast and nearby rural landscapes allow you to feel the contrast between the bustle of the city and the tranquility of nature.
